A right-hand batsman whose sound defence was seen to advantage in the top order, Dig was also a versatile spin bowler who was able to take the gloves as wicketkeeper as well. While with Nowra he won the association batting for three consecutive years from 1956-57, and one allrounder trophy. He also featured in the three successive Nowra premierships which led to the formation of the Ex-Servicemen’s club.

However, Dig did not join Ex-Servicemen until midway through the 1967-68 season, and in his second game scored 120 against Cambewarra which would remain a club first grade record for 33 years. Dig played in this club’s premiership victories in 1970-71 and 1972-73, and added to his collection of association trophies, with another allrounder and one bowling award.

Although he retired at the end of the 1976-77 season, Dig returned in 1982-83 to enjoy a season with his three sons. His final statistics in first grade with the club were 1713 runs including two centuries and seven other knocks over 50, along with 146 wickets with a best analysis of 7/7 against Nowra in 1972-73. That was easily his best year with the club for there were 333 runs and 44 wickets.

A representative player for 20 years, Dig was member of winning Shoalhaven teams and played for the Illawarra Cricket Council against South Australia.
