Peter's first grade career extended over 25 seasons, during which the right-handed batsman scored 4,262 runs, while as a left-arm medium-pace bowler he took 645 wickets and backed that up with 147 catches. He spent many seasons as captain, and led by example.

On 14 occasions, Peter reached 50 with the bat, and went on to make a century against Bomaderry in 1978-79. With the ball he took five or more wickets in an innings on 34 occasions; with a best analysis of 9/67 against Albatross in 1978-79; and best match figures of 12/97 in the 1987-88 semifinal against Rugby Union.

Peter either led or shared Ex-Servicemen’s wicket-takers for 13 seasons, and he won the association bowling three times. His three hat-tricks included a double against Ulladulla United in 1977-78, and he was SDCA “cricketer of the year” on three occasions.

A representative player for his association and the cricket council, the highlight was playing with Southern NSW against the touring Indian team in 1977-78, and he was in the Country Seconds the following season.

While his time in junior and lower grades was short, Peter scored the club’s first double century while in under 15s in 1973-74, and with Robert Aldous, featured in the two highest senior partnerships while in third grade the previous year.
