While all our Juniors had the Bye, Round One saw three of our Senior Teams take the field. Unfortunately, our fourth-grade side forfeited due to a lack of players across the club so if you are interested in playing cricket, please reach out. First Grade - Under new captain Mick Perry, the boys took on North Nowra Cambewarra. Winning the toss and bowling first, The Army kept Norths to 160, largely thanks to some great bowling from Bradd Cuddy who took 6-21. Our chase commenced with great promise, with an opening stand of 37 dominated by John Bowern who went on to make 24. Alas, no-one else went on to make double figures as we fell short.
Second Grade - Second Grade hosted Bay and Basin and after electing to bowl first, Skipper Gary Fuss led from the front taking 4-37. Aaron Van Essen backed up the captain with 3-34 as Bay and Basin were bowled out for 172. Despite a big effort from Harminder Singh (43) the boys fell 13 runs short in reply.
Third Grade - With plenty of Juniors filling our side this week, it was a big ask for our Third-Grade team. Batemans Bay batted first and set a total of 244 with captain Don Tharaka taking 2-27, while Darien Moore, Jack Meagher Linford Breeze and Myles Condon took aa wicket each. In a display of resilience, our Thirds managed 8-142 in reply thanks to 29 a piece from Dilanka Weerapura and Myles Condon.
This week sees the commencement of the South Coast Women's competition, in which we are participating. Our girls will play Kiama at Bonaira Oval following a special presentation at 5pm, celebrating the first Shoalhaven based club to have a Women's cricket team.
